LITTLE SEYIFUNMI IS A SUCCESS STORY AMONGST MANY
One life at a time…’ is very apt for the success story that little Seyifunmi Ayinde has become for SAMI.
When 6-year-old Seyifunmi a little child with sickle cell disease, suffered a mild stroke back in 2017, I am sure it was the last thing her mother expected. After a series of test including a Doppler test it was found she was at high risk of having a stroke. She was then required to go through a series of exchange blood transfusion so she will avoid a repeat incidence. After much effort moving from one hospital to another with little or no financial assistance, the mother being a single mum, after her husband ran out on her, cried out for help.
As a regular member of Sickle Cell Advocacy and Mgt Initiative’s XTRA CARE free clinic, we recognised the mother’s plight and SAMI was able to set up a wellness plan and a fundraising campaign through the Run for a Cell Campaign with donate.ng to finance the project.
With the support of our donors, money’s raise was used to pay for the procedure and her admission at Lagos University Teaching hospital. Little Seyifunmi has been able to undergo four out of the six stipulated blood exchange transfusion sessions. She is now stable, living healthy and bustling with zest.
SAMI appreciate the tremendous support that has been received from the many individuals and corporate sponsors that have made the story of Seyifunmi a success. As a Sickle Cell NGO, we look forward to more so as to be able to touch more lives… one at a time.
