It was a time to retreat and relax on 24th November, 2018 for Club Still Standing (CSS), the youth arm of Sickle Cell Advocacy and Management Initiative (SAMI) as the group held its end of the year hangout.
The hangout which gathered current and former members of the club held in the serene atmosphere of the Kids Beach Garden, Lekki, Lagos.
The event started with Toyin Adesola, Executive Director of Sickle Cell Advocacy and Management Initiative (SAMI) reminiscing on how the story of the non-governmental organization, SAMI, started with a personal resolve to help a boy in a Lagos suburb living with sickle cell disorder whom she tried assiduously to help in all forms but didn’t eventually do so much because ‘you can take the boy out of the street, you can’t take the street out of the boy’.
This, however, spurred her to continue the good work which gradually got support from her immediate family and kind-hearted friends. Now, in her 10th year, the non-governmental organization is growing in leaps and bounds.
There was knowledge sharing, networking, music and dance, and a lot of fun activities on the sandy beaches to cap the day of entertainment for the youths.
