It didn’t look like it will happen because of the prevailing health challenge across the world. But thanks be to God, from Thursday 7th to Sunday 10th January 2021, the annual SAMI staff retreat held in Lagos and it was the most impact, insightful, empowering and fun period for the team
The first two days were dedicated to learning. We had facilitators speak to us about various areas of interest. On Thursday, we had Preye Egbolibe physically present to take us on ‘Effective Report and Proposal Writing’. Mr Oluseyi Oyebisi ED, Nigerian Network of NGOs shared with us on two key topics ‘Effective Budgeting for Impact in the Non-Profit Sector and ‘Mainstreaming the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) into SAMI Projects’. Finally, we had Ikwo Oka speak on ‘Building and Driving Sustainability for Greater Organizational Impact’. We closed the day watching a movie ‘Coach Carter’ that espoused the value of teamwork.
On Friday, we had Chris Nnakwe CSR Head at Fidelity bank speak on ‘Embracing Excellent Corporate Culture for Brand Awareness’ while Lekan Otufodunrin discussed ‘Maximizing the Power of Media: Fundraising as the Endgame’. The rest of the day we devoted to a proper evaluation of all the projects and programs that we do in order to organise them for greater effectiveness.
Saturday and Sunday were dedicated to strategising for the year, holding work-team breakout sessions, team bonding activities, physical exercise, games and other fun activities.
Our staff were fired up to get ready to take on the world in 2021!
