Talk about taking a city, that’s what Sickle Cell Advocacy and Management Initiative (SAMI) did with her innovative sickle cell awareness drive. This time, Lagos, Ogun, Oyo, Osun, Kwara, and even as far as Benin republic, felt the impact of the awareness campaign.

This was engendered by the massive spread of the media, particularly the radio being the most widespread platform, provided. This was in line with the commemoration of the World Sickle Cell Day 2019.

In Nigeria’s lingua franca, English, we covered Classic 97.3FM, Star 101.5FM, and Max 102.3FM.

In Pidgin, widely spoken in Nigeria, we permeated the streets with the message through Jordan 105.5FM and Wazobia 95.1FM.

In Yoruba, one of Nigeria’s top indigenous languages, via Faaji 102.7FM we were able to take the message home.

No regular radio listener would have missed the impact of the sickle cell awareness drive. Millions must have listened in. Calls kept pouring in! Some visited the office in person!

This is a success. We will surely do this again!
