SAMI Boosts Media Engagement for World Sickle Cell Day

 

The pomp associated with the Coalition of Sickle Cell NGOs’ yearly showcase event named Red Umbrella Walk was also curtailed due to the ban on mass gatherings.

The annual World Sickle Cell Day celebrated globally every June 19th had to take a different shape and scope this year due to the pandemic. 

However, Sickle Cell Advocacy and Management Initiative (SAMI) was able to make a huge impact by taking advantage of conventional and social media. TVC, BBC Igbo, Arise TV, Metro FM, Radio Lagos, Eko FM, Jordan FM, and Max FM were engaged in pushing the sickle cell message. The media handles of the organization across all platforms @samiupdate were also actively involved in spreading the message of awareness, hope, and advocacy.
