SAMI, Adekunle Gold Foundation Brings Free Medical Intervention to Sickle Cell Warriors

In a robust demonstration of sustained commitment to community health, SAMI, in partnership with the Adekunle Gold Foundation, hosted the March edition of the Xtracare Free Medical Clinic, a specialised outreach dedicated exclusively to individuals living with Sickle Cell Disease. The outreach held on Saturday 14th March at Akerele Primary Healthcare Center, Surulere, Lagos

The intervention provided a comprehensive package of free healthcare services designed to address both the clinical and psychosocial needs of beneficiaries. Services included medical consultations with doctors, nursing care, psychological support, genetic counselling, arts therapy sessions, and the distribution of routine medications, all delivered at no cost to about 300 participants in attendance.

Health practitioners described the programme as a holistic care model, one that recognises the complexity of sickle cell management beyond emergency treatment. The integration of mental health and creative therapy further reinforced a patient-centred approach aimed at improving overall quality of life for attendees.

The outreach also served an academic and research purpose, as two final-year students attended the clinic to understudy its operations and gather data for their research projects, highlighting the initiative’s value as a practical learning environment for emerging health professionals.

The collaboration between SAMI and Adekunle Gold Foundation continues to strengthen access to equitable healthcare for vulnerable populations, particularly sickle cell warriors who often require continuous and multidisciplinary care.

The Xtracare clinic stands as a testament to the impact of strategic partnerships in delivering dignity-driven healthcare, where healing extends beyond treatment to empowerment, inclusion, and hope.
